American musician and actor Awkwafina made her debut with humorous rap tracks that tackled racial identity and sexuality with boldly comedic perspective before expanding her reach into Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her first music experience. She performed on the trumpet. After a classical and jazz education She delved into hip-hop as a teen. In the school, she focused on journalism and woman's studies. She was also a student of Mandarin during a time in Beijing. She didn't start focusing on music until the time she finished her studies. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet sensation and featured in her debut LP Yellow Ranger. It also included viral hits including body positive Queef and winking tour of her home NYC Bitche$1. The song was directly connected to the album Awkwafinas NYC, her travel guide for 2015. The singer decided to make acting as a profession after having completed her two previous endeavors, author and musician. Alongside early TV shows like Girl Code and Tawk she was also featured in movies like Neighbors 2 Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018, she landed several breakthrough roles, such as Dude Ocean's Eight or Crazy Rich Asians. The EP was released in June.
