Audra Mcdonald is a standout in the breadth of her talent and versatility in her roles as a performer and singer. Audra McDonald, who won Six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was listed as one of the Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the nation's most prestigious award to recognize achievements in the field. She has a home in television, film and Broadway. The luminous tone of her voice will make her an ideal performer on the stage. In addition to her work in the theatre, she is also a prominent performer as a recording artist who performs regularly at top venues around the globe. McDonald is a native of California, born in Fresno California to a music family, received her classical voice training at the New York's Juilliard School. She won her debut Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of the Featured Actress in a musical called Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. In the following four years she was awarded two additional Tony Awards for the category of a featured actress. She performed in the Broadway premieres Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime and Terrence McNally's production of Master Class in 1996. This was an incredible amount of three Tony Awards by the time she was thirty. In 2004, she took home her fourth Tony acting alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012 she won her fifth--and her first for the category of leading actress in the role of her lead for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. As the Tony Awards' most decorated performer, she was able to create Broadway history when she received the sixth Tony Award portraying Billie Holiday as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. This role also provided the platform to make her Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. As well as making history with the most competitive wins by an actor as well as becoming the first to win the award in all four acting categories. McDonald's theater credits also include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009) The Twelfth, the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical sensation of 1921 as well as the series That Followed (2017) Frankie & Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald's first role as a dramatic television actor was in the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sistersthe Early 100 Years. Her next appearance was as a recurring actor in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit where she starred alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. McDonald's first Emmy was for the HBO movie adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winner Wit. Directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson in the leading role the actress returned to network TV in 2003. The actress starred on Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB at the beginning of 2006, and Kidnapped, NBC. In the year 2016, McDonald was nominated for an additional Emmy Award for her performance as a character in HBO's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a film-special. She starred alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama co-produced through Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. McDonald played U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence in the first episode of her role appeared in the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. She reprised this role in the year 2018, playing an episode main character Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. The actress is a featured character for HBO's The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
